MATERIAL SEGREGATION IN THE SCRAP METAL INDUSTRY

Alchemy 7th August 2019 No Comment

Material segregation in the scrap metal industry really deserves a lot of scrutiny. In a perfect world the materials that you produce should all be segregated on site at your works. This really is best practice as it avoids double handling and ultimately means that your materials command a higher price as they need less processing at our end.

We do realise that this is not always possible and in order to yield the highest returns possible on your mixed scrap metal, all skips are segregated by hand into their base components.

NITON X-RAY TECHNOLOGY for material segregation

Niton x-ray technology is used to confirm material identification, we hold 6 analysers on site. This technology literally x-rays the metal and provides a definitive analysis of its exact grade.

The Thermo Scientific Niton XL3t GOLDD+ is the gold standard within the scrap metal industry.  It allows our recycling operatives to obtain a quick and accurate laboratory quality analysis of all metal alloys.

Once sorted each category of metal will then be weighed back and processed according to its exact material grade and form. All individual types of materials are processed in order that they take the route of highest financial return.

RANGE OF PROCESSING OPTIONS

We have a large range of processing options on site including but not limited to shot tumbling in order to clean materials, baling, cropping, granulating etc.,  All these processes allow us to yield the highest possible financial returns on the metal that we buy.

Understanding how your merchant segregates your material is essential – if they do not have accurate facilities available to them then it is likely that you are just being paid for a general grade such as Aluminium Alloy – Material Segregation in the Scrap Metal Industry is often not questioned – make sure you do!
